Chicago Under Ice Storm Warning

Freezing Rain Ice

The city of Chicago is under an Ice Storm Warning for the first time in almost a decade.

Freezing rain will spread into the greater Chicago metro area late this afternoon and continue into tonight. Snow and sleet could mix in at times. The National Weather Service in Chicago warns that up to 0.4″ of ice accumulation will be possible!

Significant travel disruptions are expected. Driving will be extremely hazardous, if not impossible, especially on untreated roads. Sidewalks and driveways will become dangerous with an icy coating.

Power outages and tree damage will also be possible due to the weight of the accumulated ice. Winds will stick around 10-15 mph from the Northeast during the duration of this event and could gust higher at times.
