Hurricane Laura Strengthens

Hurricane Laura continues to strengthen as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.

Laura is currently sitting about 585 miles southeast of Lake Charles, LA. The hurricane has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Laura will continue moving to the west-northwest around 16 mph. Laura is expected to strengthen into a major Category 3 hurricane and approach the Upper Texas and Southwest Louisiana coasts late Wednesday night.

A Hurricane Warning is in place from San Luis Pass, Texas to Intracoastal City, Louisiana. A Storm Surge Warning is in effect from San Luis Pass, Texas to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Strong winds, dangerous storm surge, and heavy rainfall with life-threatening flash flooding are all possible as Laura moves ashore late Wednesday into Thursday.
