Eta Re-Strengthens to Hurricane

Eta has once again strengthened to a hurricane. The category 1 storm has maximum winds of 75 mph and is moving north-northeast around 10 mph. The center of Eta is about 145 miles south-southwest of Tampa, FL.

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for parts of Florida’s west coast. This stretches from Bonita Beach to Suwanee River, including Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the same areas.

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting these storm surge heights if the peak surge occurs around the time of high tide:

Anclote River to Boca Grande, FL including Tampa Bay…3-5 ft
Boca Grande, FL to Bonita Beach, FL including Charlotte
Harbor…2-4 ft
Steinhatchee River to Anclote River…2-4 ft
Bonita Beach to Flamingo…1-2 ft

Rain, localized flooding, and tropical storm force winds will continue along Florida’s west coast today as well.
